Seacrest Gets Wheel of Fortune: Doug's Top 5 Game Show Hosts

I love game shows from the past and think there have been some amazing hosts. With Seacrest recently being tapped for Wheel of Fortune, I wanted to breakdown a list of the top 5 in my opinion. Determining the "best" game show host ever is subjective and can vary based on personal opinions and preferences. However, there are several iconic and highly regarded game show hosts who have made a significant impact in the industry. Here are a few notable hosts who are often mentioned as some of the best:

  1. Gene Rayburn is a highly regarded game show host who left a lasting impact on the genre. He is best known for hosting the popular game show "Match Game" in its various iterations, particularly the 1970s version that aired from 1973 to 1982. Rayburn's hosting style was characterized by his quick wit, humor, and ability to engage with the panelists and contestants. He had a natural charm and rapport with the celebrity panel, which contributed to the show's success. Rayburn's playful banter, along with his signature elongated microphone, became synonymous with the "Match Game" brand.
  2. Richard Dawson (Family Feud): Richard Dawson hosted Family Feud in its original run from 1976 to 1985 and then again from 1994 to 1995. Known for his warm and engaging personality, Dawson had a unique ability to connect with contestants and the audience, making the show entertaining and enjoyable. He was slightly inappropriate with female contestants and kissed them all! Creepy but a great host.
  3. Alex Trebek (Jeopardy!): Alex Trebek hosted the popular game show Jeopardy! for over three decades, from 1984 until his passing in 2020. Known for his calm and authoritative demeanor, Trebek became synonymous with the show and was highly respected for his professionalism and knowledge.
  4. Bob Barker (The Price is Right): Bob Barker hosted The Price is Right for 35 years, from 1972 to 2007. His charismatic and energetic hosting style made him a beloved figure on the show, and he became a pop culture icon, particularly known for his catchphrase, "Come on down!"
  5. Pat Sajak and Vanna White (Wheel of Fortune): Pat Sajak and Vanna White have been hosting Wheel of Fortune together for several decades, since the early 1980s. Sajak's wit and humor, combined with White's elegance and charm, have made them a dynamic hosting duo.

These are just a few examples, and there have been many other talented game show hosts throughout history. Ultimately, the best game show host is a matter of personal opinion and can depend on factors such as hosting style, charisma, longevity, and the impact they had on the game show genre. Can Seacrest measure up? I don't know if he's got that level of charisma but time will tell!
