A mom on TikTok is catching heat after she shared the way she “tricks” her kids into exercising. The unnamed woman posted a video that shows her 11-year-old son walking on a treadmill while watching TV, with the caption, “I only let my kids watch cartoons if they’re walking on a treadmill.”
In the clip, which has racked up 2.6-million views, the mom shares that one day, her 11-year-old walked 16 miles. And while this may be a win in her parenting book, lots of TikTokers are calling her out for it. Many say the approach is “unfair” and some write that she should be letting her kids “relax” while watching TV. “That’s low-key evil,” one comments, while another posts, “They will talk about this in therapy one day.”
But the mom wasn’t hearing it and hit back at her critics in the comments. “The volume of people who think allowing a high energy child to choose to walk while watching cartoons = trauma and abuse, is astounding,” she writes. And she did get some support from fans of the treadmill TV deal, with one posting, “Well excuse me while I add a treadmill to my Amazon list.” And another writes, “You win at parenting. That’s genius!”
