What Would Make You Walk Out of a Hotel Room Immediately?

There’s nothing worse than going on vacation and finding out the hotel you booked is not up to snuff. So, what are the biggest hotel turn offs that would make travelers turn around and walk out the door?

A new UK poll, which could easily translate here, finds:

  • 25% of travelers say it would take only “seconds” for them to be turned off by a hotel, which wasn’t clean enough.
  • 44% of travelers would be angry to walk into a dirty hotel room.
  • 43% would feel revolted.
  • 32% would feel anxious.
  • 32% would feel stressed.
  • 75% of people say they’d leave a hotel or B&B if the bed sheets were dirty.
  • Another 71% would turn around if the bathroom wasn’t clean.
  • Other issues that would make folks abandon their trip include:
    • Smelly room
    • Bad smells
    • Rude staff
    • Horrible food
    • Stained carpets
    • Loud noises
    • A dirty or grubby lobby/reception area
    • No visible cleaning taking place

So, what are travelers looking for in a hotel room on vacation?

  • Well, for 60% of adults a fresh smelling bedroom is the most important thing to them.
  • Other important room characteristics include:
    • Fresh smelling bed linen (61%).
    • An immaculate bathroom (57%).
    • No stray hairs in the room (49%).
  • For 44% of people, all these cleanliness factors are more important in picking a hotel than value for the money.
  • It’s also more important than a view from the window (32%) and the size of the room (31%).
