I used to absolutely hate the sound of my own voice. And I couldn't figure out why it sounded much better to me in my own head, then outside of my head. It's because of the way our voice travels through our body through the inside versus the sound traveling through the outside. It's quite interesting Rebecca Kleinberg explains it best in her TEDx talk. Basically our inner voice travels through our bones making it sound more melodic to us than it actually is. That's why it sounds so strange to us when we hear ourselves on a video or in a recording. Check out the TEDx talk for the full in-depth explanation. And thank you Rebecca for answering this age-old question.
