Ambitious 8 Year Old Applies For A Job And Gets A Big Surprise

An eight-year-old boy in Kentucky applies for a job washing dishes at a restaurant and ends up getting an early Christmas surprise! Nash Johnson  was on fall break from school and wanted to earn some extra money so he could buy himself a new Xbox. The Lexington, Kentucky, third-grader had recently seen a now-hiring sign outside of a Drake’s restaurant that was going to be opening soon, so he went online and applied for a job as a dishwasher.

When the kitchen manager at Drake’s saw the application, she shared it with Drake’s chief operating officer Mark Thornburg. After learning more about Nash, it was pretty clear that this kid was something special and they just had to meet him, so they invited him to their hiring orientation and later had him and his family come to the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new restaurant.

At the opening ceremony, Thornburg presented Nash with a custom Drake's uniform work shirt and gave him an early Christmas gift: the new Xbox he’d been wanting. “He was so excited when I gave him his uniform shirt,” recalls Thornburg. “But then obviously when I got the Xbox out for him and he got to open that up, it is, to say the least, it's changed the little guy's life for sure." Thornburg says he and Nash have become great friends through the encounter. And even though he didn’t get the job, he says when he’s old enough, he wants to come back and work for Drake’s.
