Costco has selected Smithfield as the location for its first store in Rhode Island.
Pending formal approvals, the membership warehouse would be located on Route 116, near the intersection with Route 7, with a proposed opening in 2028.
The store could bring more than 200 jobs to the state.
The closest Costco to Rhode Island is around 24-miles away in Sharon, Massachusetts.
