Providence Public Schools will be under local control as students head back to the classroom today.
The state took control of the schools in November of 2019 after a Johns Hopkins University report documented systemic failures.
In May the state announced that it would return local control of schools to the district.
City and school leaders are scheduled to speak to the media this morning.
Meantime, police departments in Providence and surrounding areas are asking drivers to be aware of their surrounding and the thousands of kids waiting for buses.
