CVS is agreeing to pay some 36 and a half million dollars to settle allegations that it billed Medicaid for insulin that patients didn't really need.
The allegations centered on patients receiving more insulin than prescribed and then the billing to the government.
CVS says insulin pen billing is complicated, and it settled to avoid the cost of litigation.
“Over a decade, CVS over-billed our public healthcare programs for huge quantities of insulin pens, filling refills too early, too often, and too many. In coordination with states across the country and our federal law enforcement partners, we are holding CVS accountable. We will continue to act aggressively to protect taxpayer dollars and the integrity of our healthcare programs,” according to Connecticut Attorney General William Tong.
Rhode Island will receive about 130 thousand dollars from the settlement.
Connecticut's share is over 660 thousand.
Massachusetts 1 point 3 million dollars.
