Pending approval by local licensing boards, the General Assembly has okayed allowing bars and restaurants statewide to stay open until four a.m. between June 11th and July 3rd, during select FIFA World Cup soccer matches.
Gillette Stadium in nearby Foxboro, Massachusetts, will host seven of the matches.
Supporters of the move said the tournament is a big economic opportunity for Rhode Island which is expected to see an influx of soccer fans from around the world.
