Pilot Dies After Small Plane Crash Near Westerly State Airport

The pilot of a small plane died after a Monday crash near Westerly State Airport.

Police, firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene of the crash at around noon, and the pilot was taken to Westerly Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The National Transportation Safety Board is in charge of the investigation, and the Federal Aviation Administration is assisting.

The pilot's name has not been released, and officials have not announced the origin point of the flight.
