The Rhode Island Department of Health has issued an overdose spike alert for Johnston and North Providence.
According to health officials, five residents received medical care for drug overdoses over the past week.
RIDOH says both of the municipalities have historically lower overdose rates than the statewide average.
When RIDOH data shows an increase in overdoses, the Department sends out a spike alert to inform communities and connect people to local overdose prevention, treatment, and recovery resources.
