Senator Reed Attends Old State House Ribbon Cutting

Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed was on hand for the reopening of the Old State House in Providence after two years of restoration and preservation work.

Reed joined other state leaders for a ribbon cutting Monday to mark the 250th anniversary of Rhode Island Independence Day.

The Old State House is where the Rhode Island lawmakers voted on May 4, 1776 to officially renounce the state's allegiance to the British Crown.

Senator Reed says Rhode Islanders have always been fiercely independent and while "we may be the smallest state in terms of geographic area, our citizens are courageous and our state played an outsize role in terms of America's founding, formation, and ideals of religious freedom."
