Lawmakers Consider Expanding Bar Hours During World Cup

The Rhode Island Legislature is considering a bill that would allow bars that already have liquor licenses- to remain open 24 hours a day during the World Cup.

Lawmakers say the bill would allow communities to opt out if they want.

Proponents say it will boost the economy.

State Representative Joshua Giraldo of Central Falls says that the World Cup is a generational event which is providing economic development opportunities across the state.

The Governor hasn't weighed in on the measure yet.

So far there has been no indication when the measure will come up for a vote.
