Rhode Island Energy is warning customers about an increase in scam attempts.
The utility says the scams involve individuals posing as company employees and customers are being told that they should never share personal or financial information with anyone who can't be verified as an official representative.
Rhode Island Energy says representatives will only visit a home or business after multiple attempts by phone or letter to address an overdue account.
The utility also says field technicians would only visit a home after contacting the customer in advance.
