ACLU Raises Concerns As RI Judiciary Rolls Out Facial Recognition Pilot

The ACLU of Rhode Island is expressing concerns about the state's facial recognition pilot program at courthouse entrances.

The ACLU believes there's still a lack of transparency when it comes to how the system works, including which database it uses, how long images are stored and who can access the data.

In a statement, the Rhode Island judiciary tells NBC-10 News that the software at courthouse entrances is being used for threat monitoring, and it is only accessible to Judiciary Security personnel.

The ACLU says courthouses can remain secure without facial recognition and there are already measures in place to ensure the safety of the buildings.
