Governor Dan McKee has signed legislation creating an 18-million-dollar fund to support the purchase of the Roger Williams Medical Center and Fatima Hospital.
The funding was required by Centurion Foundation investors before they would back the deal to buy the hospitals from bankrupt Prospect Medical Holdings.
The state legislation sets aside funds from the supplemental rainy-day fund as a safety net for the nonprofit Centurion's purchase of the hospitals.
