Newport's Department of Utilities is updating the public regarding the October and November billing cycles as it transitions away from the legacy billing platform.
The city says a payment batch was inadvertently posted twice in October during manual processing.
The issue has been corrected, but it happened after the October bills were generated causing some customers to see inaccurate balances.
Officials say the updated October balances and the November bills are now correct and the city has waived all interest and late fees until the billing cycle is fully stabilized.
