The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed rookie wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter on injured reserve due to a knee injury he suffered in practice, head coach Liam Coen announced on Friday (October 31).
“You feel bad for the guy, the team… Minor setback for major comeback," Coen said via NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe, who reported that the team had plans for Hunter "to take on an even larger role in the second half of [the] season, at wide receiver particular."
Hunter, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, was listed on the Jaguars' injury report Thursday (October 30) after showing no signs of a prior injury during the portion open to reporters earlier in the day and being a full participant in Wednesday's (October 29) practice. The former Heisman Trophy winner is coming off the best individual game of his rookie season, recording eight receptions for 101 yards and one touchdown in the Jaguars' October 19 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in London.
The Jaguars were planning to use Hunter as their No. 1 option at wide receiver amid Brian Thomas Jr.'s league-worst nine dropped passes.
“You definitely look at: How much more can he handle? How much more can we put him in a position to be successful on both offense and defense? And what does that look like?” Cohen said via the Associated Press.
