A groundbreaking has been held for The Miriam Hospital's construction and renovation project.

The 125-million-dollar project will include a state-of-the-art Emergency Department, single-occupancy inpatient rooms, and infrastructure upgrades across the campus.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley, Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, and Brown University Health leaders were among those taking part in Tuesday's groundbreaking.

The upgrade project comes as the hospital approaches its 100th anniversary.
