Lithium-ion Battery Apparently Sparked Westerly Van Fire

A lithium-ion battery may to be to blame for a van fire in Westerly.

The Watch Hill Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle fire at a boat yard shortly before 10:30 a.m. and found that the owner had used a fire extinguisher to put out most of the flames.

Authorities say the fire appears to have been related to the charging of a lithium-ion battery.

No one was injured and the investigation is ongoing.
