The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management says a mosquito sample taken in Providence has tested positive for the West Nile Virus.
RIDEM says the sample was collected in the city on September 9th and it's the 13th sample that has tested positive this season.
Officials say WNV is the main mosquito-borne disease in the US.
"While most people with WNV don’t get sick, about one in five people who are infected develop a fever and other symptoms. There are no vaccines to prevent or medications to treat WNV in people," officials say.
No human cases of West Nile have been reported in Rhode Island so far this year.
