Man Sentenced To 45 Years For Assault, Kidnapping Of Elderly Woman

The man charged in the assault and kidnapping of an elderly Coventry woman has been sentenced to 45-years in prison.

Fifty-four-year-old Steven Henning pleaded guilty in June to charges of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree robbery and assault on a person over 60 resulting in serious bodily injury.

Henning followed the 80-year-old victim home from a Wendy's in August of 2024 with the intent of stealing her car.

He then assaulted the woman, put her in the trunk of her car and drove to a wooded area in Smithfield where he assaulted and left her for dead.

The woman survived and found help and Henning was arrested the next day.
