Rhode Island leaders are reacting to the Wednesday shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University.
U.S. Senator Jack Reed condemns the shooting, saying you can disagree, debate, and demonstrate but free speech is a Constitutional right.
Reed says political violence doesn't solve disagreements and it undermines the very foundation of our democracy and only serves to sow division, hate, and fear.
Congressman Seth Magaziner said, "Political violence is completely unacceptable. This attack must be condemned in the strongest terms possible."
Congressman Gabe Amo, on X said: "No matter our divides, political violence is never the answer. Americans should not fear that political differences will endanger their lives."
Governor Dan McKee says political violence is unacceptable and the attack on Charlie Kirk underscores that all voices deserve safety.
