Helena Foulkes Officially Announces Run For Rhode Island Governor

Democrat Helena Foulkes, the former CEO at CVS has announced that she will be making a second run for Rhode Island governor.

Foulkes announced her plan on Tuesday at the Roger Williams Park Casino in Providence, setting up a 2026 primary rematch with incumbent Governor Dan McKee.

In announcing her run, Foulkes said Rhode Islanders are getting squeezed by "the incompetence of our state government and the failure to address a spiraling affordability crisis" that includes the costs of housing, groceries and utilities.

She also addressed the Trump presidency, saying she would fight against the "illegal and irresponsible overreach" tearing apart the nation, bankrupting the government and "destroying our children's future."

So far, there are two democrats in the race for Governor and there could be more.

Political experts say both the Attorney General Peter Neronha and the House Speaker Joseph Shekarchi are considering runs.
