West Nile Virus Detected In East Providence

The Rhode Island Department of Health says the West Nile Virus has been detected in an East Providence mosquito sample.

Officials say the sample was taken on August 25th and the risk for West Nile throughout the state is high.

RIDOH is advising the public to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites like using an EPA-approved bug spray and wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants at dusk and dawn.

Residents should also check their properties for any standing water that could serve as mosquito breeding grounds.
