Washington and Newport counties remain under a High Surf advisory until 8:00 Saturday night due to the effects of Hurricane Erin.
The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency says southern-facing beaches are experiencing hazardous surf and life-threatening rip currents and there's been minor coastal flooding in low lying areas.
RIDEM says although the parking lots remain open, no swimming is allowed at state beaches and that's expected to continue through Saturday.
The Steamship Authority says due to the storm, it's waiving change and cancellation fees for all travel scheduled for today.
