Gov, AG Ignore Call To Confirm Administration's Immigration Enforcement

Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee and Attorney General Peter Neronha are ignoring the Trump administration's call to confirm compliance with federal immigration policies.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi sent officials a letter, setting yesterday as the deadline to agree - or face DOJ litigation as a sanctuary jurisdiction.

Governor McKee says the generic, non-specific form letter lacks any meaningful detail and does not merit a response.

Neronha says federal law does not require the state to divert law enforcement to do the federal government's civil immigration law bidding.

He says if the Trump administration takes issue with that, the doors of federal court are open to them and until that point, his focus is elsewhere.
