Erin Remains A Category 3 Hurricane

The first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season is still a dangerous Category 3 storm this morning.

At last check, the National Hurricane Center said Erin's maximum sustained winds had dropped a bit to 115 miles per hour.

Forecasters say Erin could bring high surf and possible tropical storm conditions to parts of the Bahamas and the U.S. Atlantic coast this week.

That includes North Carolina's Outer Banks where coastal flooding could become a problem by late Wednesday.

Along the Jersey Shore, some communities have already banned swimming at their beaches because of the dangerous surf conditions the storm is creating. Erin in currently churning about 750 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

The National Weather Service in Boston has issued a High Surf Advisory for Barnstable and Southern Plymouth counties from now through 8 p.m. Thursday.

Large breaking waves are expected, peaking Thursday at four to eight feet in the surf zone.

Officials say the impacts will include dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water.

Localized beach erosion is also expected.
