Red Sox Have Two-Game Win Streak Snapped

The two-game winning streak of the Boston Red Sox is over after the team suffers a tough loss at home.

The Red Sox gave up three runs in the top of the ninth inning as they fell to the Miami Marlins by a final score of five to three at Fenway Park yesterday.

Wilyer Abreu went deep for Boston, who is five games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for first place in the American League East.

The Red Sox start a series with the Baltimore Orioles tonight at seven-10 p-m.

Meantime, The Red Sox will be without one of their young stars for the remainder of the season.

Infielder Marcelo Mayer confirmed on Sunday that he will have season-ending surgery on his right wrist.

Mayer injured his wrist in late July and received an injection to avoid surgery, but said a tear that hasn't improved is forcing him to have a procedure.

The 22-year-old hit .228 with four homers and 10 runs batted in over 44 games in the majors.
