Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee has signed legislation raising the state's minimum wage.
The measure increases the rate from 15-dollars-an-hour to 17-dollars-an-hour over the next two years.
McKee says hard work should be met with fair pay and raising the minimum wage sends a message that the commitment to hard-working Rhode Islanders has never been stronger.
"Hard work should be met with fair pay. By raising minimum wage over the next two years, we are sending a clear message that our commitment to hard-working Rhode Islanders has never been stronger,” Governor McKee said. “I want to thank the bill sponsors, advocates, and lawmakers who made it a priority to fight for the working class."
The federal minimum wage is 7-dollars-25-cents-an-hour.
