The Providence City Council is once again rejecting a proposal that'd allow a charter school to lease a vacant building.
The former Carl G. Lauro Elementary School has been empty for years, and costs the city hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to maintain.
This revised agreement would have cleared the way for Excel Academy to lease the property on Kenyon Street for 35 years.
Mayor Brett Smiley says he's disappointed because that lease would've ensured use of this building to support students.
