The Rhode Island Department of Corrections is teaming up with a technology company to prevent synthetic drugs from entering into prisons through the mail.
The specific drug is K-two, which officials say is sprayed onto paper and then mailed to inmates.
From there, the paper's cut into strips and then smoked or sold.
The D-O-C is enlisting a company called Securus to prevent paper mail from reaching inmates.
Any "non-legal" mail will be sent to a facility in Tampa where it will be scanned and then converted to a PDF file.
Inmates will have access to reading the PDF file, but will not receive the physical mail.
