ICE has arrested an MS-13 gang member on fentanyl trafficking charges in Providence.
ICE says Ivan Rene Mendoza-Meza is a self-admitted gang member with three prior charges for trafficking fentanyl in Rhode Island.
The arrest had drawn the ire of some for the appearance of Providence Police.
Some had suggested that the Police Department actions were in violation of its own protocols. But Police Chief Oscar Perez says Providence Police did not participate until after the arrest was made and only to deal with the car that was left behind at the scene of the ICE operation.
The Honduran national is now facing removal from the U.S.
