Providence Mayor Brett Smiley has announced preparations for the 2025 hurricane season and extreme weather.
The mayor says the city has made major upgrades to coastal defenses, including the hurricane barrier and the street gates to protect infrastructure and communities.
He says while the federal government is rolling back environmental protection and making drastic cuts to programs addressing the impacts of climate change, Providence is going in the other direction.
Smiley says Providence is making more investments and proactive changes to make our city safer, more sustainable and less vulnerable to impacts of extreme weather.
