Black Bear Spotted On West Greenwich Sand Dunes

A hiker spotted a black bear walking along the sand dunes in West Greenwich Thursday evening.

It marked the latest of several bear sightings in Rhode Island over the past month.

On June 6th a black bear was spotted in West Warwick and on June 16th, another was seen crossing Route 1 in Narragansett.

Rhode Island has a small black bear population and they're generally not a cause for concern since they're often transient and avoid people.

Residents are reminded to remove bird and squirrel feeders and secure garbage containers, especially if they contain food scraps.
