Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha reaffirms the state's commitment to protecting birthright citizenship after last week's U.S. Supreme Court ruling.
The court did not address the constitutionality of President Trump's ban on automatic birthright citizenship, but it did restrict the ability of district judges to issue nationwide injunctions.
Neronha says the Fourteenth Amendment expressly grants citizenship to American-born children, and the Supreme Court decision doesn't change that.
He says the state welcomes the opportunity to continue the fight to protect birthright citizenship in District Court.
