The National Weather Service Boston has issued an extreme heat warning for Rhode Island until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency says dangerously hot conditions are expected with heat index values that could reach 110-degrees.
Officials say heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity and residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room if possible and check in on relatives and neighbors.
A list of cooling centers is posted on the Emergency Management website.
