Congressional Delegation Reacts To US Air Strikes In Iran

The Pentagon says "Operation Midnight Hammer," was the largest B-2 bomber strike in U.S. history.

The U.S. struck three nuclear facilities in Iran, including the fortified Fordow facility.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine said he believes the U.S. struck a blow to Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Caine said the destruction to the facilities was substantial and more will be known in the coming days.

Senator Jack Reed, a ranking member of the Armed Services Committee said:

“President Trump ordered airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, directly involving U.S. forces in this conflict. This was a massive gamble by President Trump, and nobody knows yet whether it will pay off. President Trump declared: “Iran’s nuclear facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.” But there is a lot we still don’t know and we need an accurate, factual damage assessment.

“What we do know is that the United States of America has the strongest military in the world powered by brave men and women who expertly supported and executed this mission. We are grateful for their service and we must be prepared for retaliation -- both in the short and long-term, on the battlefield and asymmetrically.

“Congress needs to be briefed in a classified setting. And I will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure the American people get the facts and answers they deserve.

“It’s easier to start wars than end them. Even though the U.S. maintains military dominance, we are in a dangerous stage that could lead to significant instability in the region and beyond. We must be prepared for contingencies going forward.”

Congressman Gabe Amo said:

“Only Congress has the power to declare war.

Trump’s unconstitutional, unilateral strikes against Iran endanger Americans and undermine Congress’ authority. He risks dragging the U.S. into another endless war, breaking his promise to end foreign conflicts.

Trump failed at his obligation to receive approval from Congress for these actions.

Iran's foreign ministry says the U.S. has started "a dangerous war against Iran." The U.S. military conducted airstrikes against three nuclear facilities in Iran early Sunday local time, using "bunker buster" bombs to destroy underground sites. Iran released a statement saying that "in the midst of a diplomatic process," the U.S. has "betrayed diplomacy." It went on to say the U.S. government "bears full responsibility for the grave consequences and dire repercussions" of the attack.
