The American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island is suing Brown University's police department for refusing to provide arrest records to journalists.
The lawsuit contests the university police department's position that it's not subject to the state's Access to Public Records Act and it can keep its arrest reports from the public.
The ACLU is seeking a judgment determining that the Brown University Department of Public Safety is a public body and must comply with APRA requests for arrest records and other publicly available law enforcement documents.
