RI Attorney General Announces Environmental Settlement Funds

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha says Barletta Heavy Division has paid 11-million-dollars to resolve environmental violations at the Route 6/10 construction site.

The company violated the state's solid waste laws by bringing in and dumping contaminated materials from a site in Boston.

In addition, the company brought in contaminated fill from the Pawtucket-Central Falls train station site, where the presence of arsenic in the soil had been confirmed.

Under the settlement, Barletta will fund dental care for Providence city youth with 10-million-dollars and pay 750-thousand-dollars in compensation for costs of investigation and prosecution to the Attorney General's Office.

The company will also pay 250-thousand-dollars in compensation to the Department of Environmental Management for the costs of investigation.
