The Rhode Island man charged with murdering an elderly man in 2022 has been sentenced to 40-years behind bars.
Robert Ayers was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of 75-year-old retired Marine Robert Fontaine in Providence.
Fountaine was found dead in his home on Ethan Street where Ayers assaulted and robbed him.
Fountaine's daughters gave victim impact statements during Tuesday's sentencing.
They both spoke, calling Ayers a coward whose choices ruined what little time their father dad had left on Earth, and it destroyed their lives forever.
