The possibility of privatizing security at Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport is opposed by Senator Jack Reed.
Airport management is exploring the possibility of replacing the federal Transportation Security Administration.
An airport spokesperson said long lines and unacceptable wait times are a concern as T.F. Green gets busier.
However, Reed said privatization is the wrong approach and he would not support any change that could undermine safety at security checkpoints.
