Diocese of Providence Reflects On The Death Of Pope Francis

The Diocese of Providence is reacting to the death of Pope Francis. Monsignor Albert Kenney has released a statement saying from the moment of his election as Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church,

Pope Francis was a shining and powerful example of the mercy of God, embracing in his ministry the poor, the migrant, the marginalized, and the global Catholic community.

Providence Bishop-Designate Bruce Lewandowski says with his warm smile and familiar pastoral style, Pope Francis made everyone feel part of a world-wide parish.

Pope Francis' funeral will be this Saturday at St. Peter's Basilica.

Cardinals at the Vatican met today to plan for the funeral and for the conclave, the manner in which a new Pope is chosen.

Pope Francis died Monday after a stroke at age 88.

His funeral is set to start at 4 a.m. Eastern time.
