RI Correctional Officer Agrees To Plea Deal In Manslaughter Case

A former state correctional officer has agreed to a plea deal in the manslaughter case against him.

On Wednesday, Geoffrey Peters pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter and received a deferred five-year sentence in the 2021 death of prison inmate Timothy McQuesten.

Peters was arrested following an investigation that determined he was criminally negligent in the execution of his duty.

Peters was initially placed on paid administrative leave and was fired from the ACI after being charged in McQuesten's death.
