Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha is co-leading a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for cutting nearly 11-billion-dollars in public health grants.
The HHS terminated the grants last month, claiming the funding was no longer needed because the pandemic had ended.
The coalition says the terminations are unlawful since the funds are not tied to the end of COVID-19. Rhode Island stands to lose more than 31-million-dollars for health care programs without the funding.
Neronha told reporters that the President gave 220 million dollars to the Washington Bridge project with one hand and is taking away tens of millions of dollars from the state with the other.
The coalition wants a temporary restraining order to invalidate the terminations.
