Ct Senator Seeks Answers For Food Assistance Cuts

Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal wants an explanation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture about the cancellation of funding for The Emergency Food Assistance Program.

Blumenthal and 25 Senate colleagues said cutting hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars in previously approved funding would hurt food banks and other emergency food providers that feed millions of Americans.

“A cancellation of these funds could result in $500 million in lost food provisions to feed millions of Americans at a time when the need for food shelves is extremely high due to costly groceries and an uncertain economy.”

The senators also note the program buys from U.S. growers and producers who are already struggling due to tariffs, proposed tariffs and other challenges.
