The Department of Justice has announced that Zachary Cunha has resigned from his position as U.S. Attorney for the District of Rhode Island.
Cunha presented a letter of resignation after the White House reportedly notified him that President Trump directed him to step down.
Cunha was nominated to serve as U.S. Attorney in 2021 by former President Joe Biden.
In a statement Cunha said he has worked hard every day to live up to the example of excellence set by his 38 distinguished predecessors over the 235-year history of the Office, and it has been the honor of his career to do the job.
