Providence Police are investigating an alleged attempt to abduct a child on New Year's Eve.
Police say the parents of a seven-year-old flagged officers down shortly after 8:30 p.m. and reported that a man tried to lure their daughter to go with him while on the Michael S. Van Leesten Memorial Bridge.
The child ran to her parents, and they tried to approach the man but he fled the scene.
Police say the suspect got close to the girl, but did not touch her.
