RIPTA Considers Service Cuts- Hearings Planned

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is proposing a series of reductions or full elimination of some of its bus lines.

RIPTA is holding public hearings on the plan, which would cut eleven lines completely, plus reduce or eliminate 20 more routes.

The authority is seeking to increase service and change ride times on several others.

Amid the criticism from users, RIPTA officials say cuts need to be made, due to a lack of drivers, plus an 8-million dollar budget deficit.

The board plans to vote on the proposals Thursday.
