New Scam Could Be Headed This Way

The alert comes out of Connecticut- but officials are warning it could happen anywhere.

West Hartford Police are warning residents of a scam known as check washing that has been reported recently.

Check washing is the process where chemicals are used to remove ink from a check, then large amounts and new recipients are added.

Two residents have recently reported having this happen after dropping envelopes with checks inside into local mail boxes.

Police recommend dropping off letters containing checks at the post office during business hours.
